- Abstract: Digital twins are now a fundamental part of the digitization of a wide range of sectors, as they enable the mimicking of physical processes for subsequent simulation and analysis, thereby improving decision-making. One of the main challenges when designing digital twins is the level of abstraction required, as complex processes significantly increase the difficulty and cost of development. The OPENTWINS-FED project will investigate an approach based on federated digital twins and multi-agent systems for the design of digital twins of complex and multi-domain processes. These federated digital twins will be the basis for analysing emergent properties resulting from collaboration between twins, as well as for creating digital twin ecosystems, which will enable disruptive simulation and analysis capabilities, both on digital twins in operation and on copies dedicated to experimentation. In line with our experience with the OpenTwins platform, a platform-based approach and low-code techniques will be followed for the development of the OPENTWINS-FED platform.
